It would help to know a little bit of what you are seeing. Are there error messages, partial window loading, console messages etc.

Can new projects, like the tutorial, be created?

Are you talking about the “File > Recent Projects” menu list? If so, that list is provided by MacOS, and upgrading MacOS has probably cleared the list, You’ll have to find where you saved your projects on your HD/SSD and open them from there. Spotlight *.scriv is your friend for that.

If you are talking about the File > Recent Projects menu list, as Mark implies above, another cause of the problem may be that this occasionally gets “stuck”.

To see if that’s the problem, go to the foot of the pane in System Preferences > General. Change the number of “Recent items” displayed there (from 10 to 5, say) and close the pane. That should unstick the Recent Projects list (you can always return to the System Preferences > General pane and re-set it to the number you want).
