all my old scrivener files have disappeared, five novels, all that matters. after purchasing the new version i have a new sort of apprentice logo that contains nothing.
i love scirvener. i put everything that means anything to me on it. so where are my old files?
no thing appears to remain - .i so wish i did not intend to upgrade
…trying not to despair.
Right, when you say your old files have disappeared, what do you mean exactly? Do you mean that you have scoured your hard drive and that all of the .scriv files have somehow been deleted? Because that’s unlikely.
Or, do you just mean that if you go the File > Recent Projects menu, it is empty? Because that is normal and nothing to worry about, as Scrivener 2.0 uses different settings to Scrivener 1.x (for those users who want to run both side-by-side for a while).
Remember that Scrivener projects are just regular files on your hard drives - .scriv files. They’re most likely in your ~/Documents folder, but Spotlight will help you find them. Then just use File > Open in Scrivener to open and update them.
I can assure you that Scrivener 2.0 doesn’t delete all your files.
I’m not clear on exactly what you are saying, but it sounds as if your old files are in a location that you were relying on Scrivener to find for you. Certainly there is no reason that installing Scrivener into your Applications directory should have damaged your saved files.
Do a spotlight search (the little Magnifying glass icon in the top right hand corner of your Mac screen) for one of the titles of your ‘missing’ documents. This should reveal the directory where you have them stored. You can then open them up using Scrivener 2.0 and it will convert them to the new format for you as well as keeping a backup copy of the original version.
