To be a bit more verbose about it (in many other threads), here is a primer post on how programs like Scrivener work. If you are thinking they should work more like word processors, it might be time to go through some basics on what outlining software is as a genre, and how very different a kind of software these programs are, from those that map large monolithic documents from heading trees found within the document (whether that be rich text stylesheets, Markdown headings, or LaTeX, it’s all the same philosophy of design).
