Please find attached both the Nisus RTF file, and the Scrivener 3.3.1 project into which I imported the RTF file, after having created the two character styles. I can’t see the character styles applied to the relevant words.
Thanks, that helps. What you are demonstrating here has never been a valid import case though, as noted above: none of the style names used in the RTF document exist in Scrivener.
It will not create styles from documents you import. This is on purpose, to avoid the proliferation of dozens of styles you don’t need from documents you’ve imported as research or whatever. Only matching style names will be linked up.
So if you change the names of your styles in Scrivener to match the RTF document, you should find it works.
Ok, I see what is happening here: I’m using the Italian version of Nisus, and it doesn’t just translate the display names of the styles, but even saves them as shown. This is a logical behavior.
I just renamed the styles into English, and everything is working fine.
That is incredibly important. One of the things that drives me mad is the dozens of totally useless, unused, automatically generated styles in DOCXs sent to me. Fortunately there is a Nisus Writer Pro macro to remove unused styles.
I use it, not just when I open a DOCX sent to me, but also as one of the last things I do before sending my NWP RTFs to others, to keep them as clean as possible.
I am still working through details myself and learning Scrivener (and Nissus), but what I did to import all styles was to save them to a Style Collection in Nissus. Double click a style in list and you get the Style Sheet. Then click “Save to Style Library”. On the Save panel, there is another button “Show Style Library”. After saving, right click and choose “Show in Finter”. This is just an rtf file.
Then in Scrivener, go to Format > Style > Show Styles Panel. Click gear icon on bottom and import styles. Make sure you select All Styles and not just Active. The styles should now be imported. Then import your content file and text will be imported with matching styles.
