Imported Japanese files don't display properly

I’m fairly new to Scrivener and so may be missing something obvious. When I import a Japanese file as either .rtf or .doc, it displays properly on the Corkboard, but when I open it in an Editor pane, all the text has disappeared. What am I doing wrong? Any help much appreciated.

It’s a matter of fonts. I had the same problem with Chinese. I use optima as my editing font, so whenever I import a Chinese .doc into Scrivener, I immediately do a “Convert: Text to Default Style” from the file menu … or I’ve got it set to Ctrl-Cmd-D, and the Chinese appears. I guess the same would be true with Japanese.

Thank you. That solved the problem.
