Indexing incomplete

I have a lot of PDF documents that I imported into my Scrivener doc - this used to be very helpful in the past, tracking down all instances of a person for example. In this document, the search doesn’t turn up all the PDFs - a whole folder full of stuff seems not to be indexed properly. Anything I can do about that?
Christoph.

Some pdfs only have an image layer, and don’t have a text layer. This means that searching for text won’t work with them – there isn’t any text to be found. This is probably what your problem is. The only solution I know is to run the pdfs through an OCR program, but in my experience it’s a lot of work, and produces variable results.

Best wishes,

Martin.

No, these are actually no PDFs but HTMLs created by dragging a web page into Scrivener, so they contain the full text information.

Go to the File menu and hold down the Control key as you click on Save. This will force Scrivener to re-index everything in your project. Make a backup of your project first, though, in case the operation times out (this shouldn’t happen with 1.54, but just in case).

If it’s still not working, try creating a new project and dragging one of the files that can’t be found into it. Then search in that project to see if it works. If not, send me the demo project.

You did explicitly say it was PDF files that weren’t being found in your first post, by the way.

Thanks, Keith, that did the trick!

Glad that helped. Very strange it didn’t index them from the get-go, though. If you notice it happen again with any particular files, let me know.
All the best,
Keith
