"Inherited" font traits

Perhaps I’m missing something, but is there a way to make Scrivener give new text documents the traits of the immediately preceding one? That is, override the default and have the new doc continue with the previous document’s settings? Or at least do this with a sub-document?

There is a little trick for doing this:

At the bottom of the document, insert a space, and then with the cursor before that space, press Cmd-K to split. All formatting preferences will be carried over. Note however, this also carries over all of your meta-data.

Another method requires using Apple’s rich text ruler to create a style and then apply the style in the new document. This is probably the easiest way to do it, though it can be a bit obnoxious unless you do this all of the time with the same styles.
