Inspector does not display selected item

I have a split screen set-up, with the left screen set to show what’s selected in the binder. Binder and Inspector are visible.

  • select an item (that has a child item) in the binder - the Inspector displays the item
  • select its child item in the left window - the Inspector displays the child item
  • select the parent item again in the binder - ithe Inspector displays the parent item again
  • slsect the child item again in the left window - the Inspector does not display the child item

Thanks. The inspector should always just be showing the editor selection, not switching to the binder. Deselecting the item in the editor (by Ctrl-clicking it or clicking into the blank area of the corkboard or outliner) should show the parent container’s meta-data, and re-selecting the item would then correctly show its data again.
