Installation from the CD

Prior to ordering Scrivener CD I ended up trying the 30 day trial. Now that I received the CD and trying to install it by dragging and dropping the icon into the Application Folder I get this message, “A newer item named “Scivener” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the older one you are moving?” I definitely need help. I don’t know if you need this info. but I have a Mac 10.5 system

Since you already have a copy of Scrivener installed (the trial you downloaded), moving the application from the CD* will overwrite that existing version. Technically, there’s no reason to do this, since the trial is the full version of Scrivener, and all you need to do is enter the user license via the menu Scrivener>Register…

You can replace it with the CD version if you like, but I would recommend that you check the version information on the two copies before you do so, in case you do have a more recent update installed already. When you have Scrivener open, go to Scrivener>About Scrivener to check the version number at the bottom of the pop-up. If that’s newer than what’s on your CD (most recent is 1.54), then once you install from the CD you’ll just have to download the updates anyway, though you can easily do so from inside the program. • As far as I know, Scrivener doesn’t actually come on a CD–you can download it or you can order it on a USB thumb drive. Someone better informed may correct me, but if you really bought it from somewhere other than the Lit&Latte site and got it on a CD, I’d be leery that you don’t have a legal copy. Just my two cents. Keith corrected me on this. Sorry!

Hi,

MimeticMouton - it is possible to order Scrivener on CD. eSellerate offer a CD option, and we added it a few months back.

ABC - MimeticMouton is correct, though; if you’ve installed the downloaded version already, there’s no need to overwrite it with the one from the CD. They should both be exactly the same - the download version on the site is exactly what comes on the CD.

All the best,
Keith

Whoops. I stand corrected. Sorry for jumping into panic mode! I didn’t see it on the webpage when I double checked, and the whole “order software on a burned CD” scam leaped to mind. Glad it’s all happy and for real!

Thank you both for your help.
