Is there a way to know when a file was created?

I haven’t been able to find a way of checking when an individual file in my binder was created. Ideally I would like to be able to organize my binder by date. Can this be done? TIA -A

I think this might get what you are looking for:

Select the folder containing items.
Go to outline view.
Add the “Created Date” column.
Click on column header to sort ascend/descend.
Slipt screen vertical and hide binder.
Lock the outline editor in place using “lock editor”.

I think that is about as close as you can get. Someone much smarter may have a better way. Keep in mind i’m not all that smart so there is probably a better way to do this.

Jaysen’s spot on with showing the created date; this is also possible by viewing the inspector information for a given file (View > Layout > Show Inspector)–created or modified dates can be displayed in the middle “General Meta-Data” section (switch between the two by clicking the up/down arrows there). Sorting the binder by date isn’t possible, nor yet is sorting outliner columns, so that part of the trick won’t work, although once this feature for the outliner gets in it you’ll be able to sort your groups of items there and copy them back into the binder to update the binder with the new ordering.

Crap. That will teach me to not check the windows version before I offer an explanation.

Thanks both of you for the tips. And so quickly! I can make this work.

Is there a way to make the inspector stick with the created date? I always choose that and when I open Scrivener the next time the inspector shows modified date again and to see the created date I have to switch again.
