Is there dialogue formatting?

Hi everyone!

I downloaded the trial version last night and am sort of kicking the tires and slamming the doors to get a sense of what the program can do.

So far it seems pretty good, but there’s one feature I’m looking for, but don’t know if it exists.

When I’m in the ‘novel’ mode and typing dialogue is there a option key that will automatically format it with starting and ending quotes?
If not, is there a way to record a style or a macro that will let me do this?

What can I say. I’m a lazy writer and my right pinky has a blink spot when it comes to the quotes key.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I hope to decide if this is the writing software for me by tonight. I’m investing write’n time to check this out and hoping this is the right tool for me.

Hi,

Welcome aboard and thanks for trying out Scrivener.

No, there’s no way of doing what you want, I’m afraid - Scrivener would need to be nearly as intelligent as a human being to get something like this right, when you consider all the attribution tags that would need to be taken into account (“he said”, etc).

All the best,
Keith

Thanks for the quick reply, Keith.

I guess I’m spoiled. Ah well, life goes on. I’m looking forward to experimenting with the features. Coming from a script writing background I like the index cards. Very useful when building the story line.

Maybe more questions to follow once I get my hands on it tonight.
Thanks again.

By the way, nice nod to Silent Running.

Well-recognised!
