Is Tiger enough, or does Leopard really hit the spot?

Is Tiger enough, or does Leopard hit the spot?

  • Yes, I’d buy now
  • No, I’d wait for Leopard

Lately I’ve been regarding my beloved PowerBook with a critical eye, while drooling over the new 24â€

I just waxed all lyrical about the joys of Leopard (without breaking my NDA) in a long reply, and then Safari 3.0.3 crashed on me, as it does daily. Sigh.

In a nutshell: I love Leopard mainly for the visual tweaks and the unified new interface (which can be seen in the previews on the Apple pages, so I’m not giving anything away there). It feels much more modern, and in a good way. Dunno about killer features, but I do know that I hate booting into Tiger now, with its kludgy brushed metal Finder (with no Cover Flow or QuickLook! How did I live without them?), washed out unified toolbars and mish-mash of application styles.

Best,
Keith

Ohhh… don’t tease me.

I would wait since it’s release is supposedly around the corner.

One feature I hope to be killer for me is the better voices. I’ve had the computer “read” back to my my own work and it’s better than nothing, but worse than a real human. But with a real human, I sometimes interrupt to interrupt and say “what I really meant to say here was…” with a computer, I’m forced to sit and listen to my own awful prose.

I’m hoping the new voices make it a less mechanically unpleasant and thus, more frequently useful experience.

Voices? Methinks you mean voice - singular. As specified on the accessibility part of the Leopard preview on Apple’s website (and thus I am not breaking any NDA here), there is only one new and improved voice, “Alex”:

Indeed, there may be only one voice, but it sounds so, so, so, so much better. I don’t need much choice; I just want to hear my own writing aurally before I start to polish, and right now, neither Vicki nor Victoria are cutting it (nor are Bruce, Fred, Junior, or Ralph, natch).

I’m sure there’s more (Spaces, perhaps?) that I’ll think are pretty nifty and not begrudge my upgrade, but a more natural voice is my highest hope for vast improvement.

Yea, I am doing the same thing. Except I’m waiting for leopard before I buy my first Mac. I just hope its not delayed again. The sooner I get my Mac, the sooner I can use scrivener.
