To make keywords more useful (and I love keywords), it would be nice to be able to do more than search one keyword at a time–it would help if all the keywords could appeared in the binder–a special keyword binder. When we click on the folder we could see all the documents with that keyword. In other words, the keyword binder would look like the keyword HUD but expand and when clicked on automatically show all the docs with the keyword. If this could happen then scrivener would be a dream for collecting research notes!
Hi,
You can already search for more than one keyword. Either type all the keywords you want to search by in the search field in the toolbar, or select all the different keywords you want to search for in the Keywords HUD before clicking on “Search”.
Hope that helps.
All the best,
Keith
Thank you for this tip.
I would like to browse through documents based on keywords and organize through them. A keyword binder would allow me to really dig into this and documents would now be placed in more than one folder as I look at the contents of different keywords. I see documents in more than one folder as a big help.
Since searching keywords is already enabled, could a list of the keywords as in HUD (the keyword binder) just call up a search as one clicked on a keyword folder name? In other words, maybe it is doable. This way I could navigate easily and quickly through documents based on the keywords.
I think what you are asking for is already implemented. After you search for the keyword(s), click on the magnifying glass and choose “Save search”. This will create a little purple folder in the Binder. When you double-click on it, all of the documents matching your keyword query will be called up again.
I would have to do this for every keyword I use.
The thing is, you can essentially do exactly what you want already using the Keywords HUD. You just select a keyword in the HUD - or multiple keywords - and then click on “Search” at the bottom of the HUD. Then the binder is replaced with the search table, showing all documents with that keyword. The effect of this is exactly the same as what you are suggestion - it allows you to easily display different all documents associated with particular keywords.
Anyway, certainly there are no plans for a “keywords-as-folders-in-the-binder” feature, as I think it would be confusing and the current system already allows for very flexible keyword searches, and you can already achieve what you are asking for.
All the best,
Keith
Thanks. I’ll try out what you are suggesting
+1 for Keywords as automatic folders.
Practically, it would make sense to have a dedicated keywords folders folder.
Sorry, I don’t operate on a +1 or vote basis - please don’t respond with “+1” to feature requests.
Also, please read the above. I don’t really understand what you mean by “it would make sense to have a dedicated keywords folders folder”.
I think they are basically wanting a folder full of saved searches, each of which searches for its respective keyword when you view it, that is automatically updated with saved searches as new keywords are made.
I don’t understand what the use of that would be, since the HUD + search button is already essentially just that with a different metaphor. 100% functional parity.
I was very glad to see Scrivener 3 coming to windows (I had to change platforms and was really missing it).
I don´t know if I’m missing something, but as I see it, these “search by keywords” that already exists in Scrivener, could be much more useful if a double click on the keyword would trigger it (instead of triggering rename).
