Keywords for Amazon - Advice?

Hi there,

I’ve chosen a title for my novel but am doubting my choice a little. I’ve called it The Rubicon - the story revolves around a girl of seventeen who becomes entangled in an affair with the vicar of her parish. The rubicon of the title refers to the day their relationship is consummated - no way back from that moment, as we all know! Things go terribly wrong for the two of them after this and that’s where the story takes off.

I like the title but I have to choose some keywords for Amazon searches as I’ll be publishing on KDP. Trouble is, I just don’t know where to start in choosing keywords. The phrases ‘coming of age’, ‘romance’ and ‘contemporary fiction’ are already included in the main search.

Some people have suggested that I change the title to suggest more of the book’s story but I really like it. I’m hoping the blurb will do some of the talking for me when it comes to someone deciding whether to buy or not. But…to get to the blurb, we need the keywords!

Help me guys! I’ve taken an age to write this thing and would hate to stumble at the last fence.

Thanks for reading my plea.

Suz

This isn’t a question that I personally have the answer to - but I think I know a way of finding it. Some time ago, I read a book by Joanna Penn called How to Make a Living with Your Writing, which as far as I can remember, amongst other useful advice, had some ideas on finding the most effective keywords - effective in marketing terms of course. The book may be available on Amazon, but it’s certainly available on http://thecreativepenn.com

Thanks Hugh,
I am aware of her blog. I’ll have a look at it - I’m desperate for inspiration. Who would have thought that finding a few keywords would stop me in my tracks after writing a 100,000 word novel!
