Label shape

Hi

I have started using Scrivener 3 on a Mac. When I insert a label into the Binder, the label appears as a circle. I see on YouTube videos that the label shape are square. My question is can I change the default label shape from a circle to a square? If I can, where are the controls to change the default shape?

Kind regards

Hello Michael888 and welcome to the forum.

You said you saw a video on YouTube that had the label icons as squares. Were those colors to the right or to the left of the document’s name? Also, was that video showing Scrivener 3? Or, might it have been an older version?

In Scrivener 3 for Mac, you can go to View > Use Label Color In > Binder, which will display the colored labels to the right of the document as a large dot.

Or, you can go to View > Use Label Color In > Icons, which will change the icon to have the label color.

Is that what you were seeing in that video?

Hi Ruth

The squares were to the right of the scene name. When I select a label color it in the Binder is displays as a colored dot (default). Is there a way to change the shape to a square?

kind regards

Not what you want, but it might suit… try activating both:

  1. View → Use Label Colour in → Binder

  2. View → Use Label Colour in → Show as Background Colour in Binder

(I prefer this to just having the circles.)

Same here I prefer the dots rather than the background bars. Maybe this is an improvement suggestion.

Thank you for your help.

Tinting the icons is for me the way to go. It can be fine tuned with the Opacity setting so as to tint just enough and not too much, as per your taste. Visibly present but not obtrusive and economical with Binder space. It works best with the default icons, so you kind of have to leave the jazzy icons alone — but that works for me.
