[LH2983] Swap Editors now forces a layout change

The behavior of View > Layout > Swap Editors has been modified in the beta to swap the editors’ positions rather than the documents they display, The command has always been found on the Layout menu, so the new behavior is more logical in a narrow sense. But I’d argue not as useful.

We still need a quick command that retains the selected layout and simply swaps the contents displayed in the panes. Am I missing it somewhere? I prefer a wider right pane for writing and a narrower left pane primarily for reference and navigation. So I’ll effect a Swap when the desired doc is in the wrong pane. Not seeking a layout change in this most common scenario; in fact forcing the left pane wide defeats the purpose of the swap.

Thanks for any insights!

Thanks! This has been filed.

Noticing as well that when we run View > Layout > Swap Editors the editors are reversed for Navigate > Binder Selection Affects. I have this set to Right Editor, and after the swap it’s the Left editor that responds.

Hi - The bug on Binder Selection Affects has been fixed, but I hope the behavior on Swap Editors is still in line for repair or reconsideration. My left editor has both a narrower pane and a smaller zoom, and I don’t want these on the right. There should be a Swap Editors that functions as it did in v. 1.9x, where the editors’ contents are swapped but the prevailing layout is retained.

Please note that the Swap Editors report got its [LH] number before the Binder Selection Affects bug was added, and only the latter has been addressed. So I want to be sure that Swap Editors altering the layout is a design choice on the Mac V3 model, and not just a changed algorithm’s unanticipated side effect.

Thanks for taking another look
