I try to use quotes to the left and right of a quotation that look the same, both like the one to the right in this picture.
However I only get them to look like this, the left one is upside down. In Options/corrections/substitutions it is very difficult to see what the quotation marks look like. There are two that could be the ones I want, but with both I only get the result above. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
In order to really see the smart quote styles, you need a font that shows them clearly, in a size that’s readable. So for that, go to Options/Appearance, click the Menus and Windows font, set it to a serifed font that exaggerates the quotes (Times New Roman works for this). I set the font size to 16 for this purpose (so the quote styles are easy to see).
And, there’s a bug. The style you want to use is present in the list, and it doesn’t work (at least for me). When I set the smartquotes to this style, I get straight quotes. This should work – the characters are present in the font, but… no dice.
I know that doesn’t help, but we can hope it’s an easy fix.
Thanks, good idea, now I can see which option is which. And I can see that this must be a bug.
The quotation marks are upside down before a word, and “normal” after a word, whichever option I use (the first one or the sixth). I want them to look like the sixth option, similar on both sides of the quote, with the broadest part up. This is common practice in Swedish writing.
Try closing and reopening the project and immediately choosing the sixth option. We currently have a bug where attempting to change the style of quotation more than once per session results in the option ‘sticking’ with whatever was first chosen and ignoring any further changes.
