Line and Paragraph Spacing

My book is double-spaced with no additional space before paragraphs. But I have a song with three verses. There should be closer spacing within the verse and additional space before each verse (paragraph). But I have to place Line Breaks manually. My problem is that a New Line adopts the New Paragraph spacing. See screenshot, where I have deleted the Line Breaks from the middle verse to show the difference. What am I doing wrong?

Are you showing what it looks like in the Scrivener Editor or after Compile to some external format?

This is a known cosmetic problem with MacOS 10.12. It is only on screen that the spacing of line breaks inherits the spacing of paragraph breaks. On compile, the line-break spacing is respected.

Maybe it will be solved with version 3.

It is indeed fixed in Scrivener 3, the next paid update of Scrivener, although that isn’t ready yet. The problem affects apps built on macOS 10.11 or earlier but running on macOS 10.12. Scrivener 2 has to be built on 10.11 in order to support older systems.

I have reported the bug to Apple, and they recently emailed me to say that they have fixed it in macOS 10.13, so that Scrivener 2 running on macOS 10.13 shouldn’t have the problem, although I haven’t had chance to test it and confirm with Apple that it is fixed yet.

As Mark says, though, this is purely a cosmetic issue inside Apple’s text engine running on macOS 10.12. Once you export and open in Word or in another word processor that doesn’t use Apple’s text engine, it should look as expected.

Sorry for the inconvenience on this, but unfortunately as an indie developer I’m reliant on Apple’s text engine for the main editor.

All the best,
Keith

Thanks very much for the prompt and helpful responses.
