I’ve been trying to link to some some rather large pdf files, but under the Scriv ‘edit’ menu, link to file is ‘greyed out’. The options offered are only to link within the Scrivener project itself rather than to external files or folders which is what I want to do in order to keep the project size down.
I’ve not noticed this behaviour before so it’s probably me, but thought I would ask.
One other point. If I create an alias to a file which is on the Hard drive and then put that alias into the Scriv project instead of the actual file, does Scriv accept that alias as an alias (= say 1K on the project size) or does it import the whole file (= prob 10Mb added to the project file)?
I think it’s greyed out because that function is to insert a link to a file in a text document. Not into the Binder.
For importing the PDFs you can got to File ▸ Import ▸ Research Files as Aliases…, which will do what you want - keep the file size down - without having to make the aliases first. See section 9.2 of the manual for more info.
I thought there was a way it could be done but I missed that.
Like some others on here I’m coming up against the limits imposed by a free DropBox account. I did manage to accumulate some referrals back in the day, but I’m hittng the limit again and need to try to keep the file sizes down.
