I’ve just downloaded the trial and am a little new to the program. So far I like what I see.
Here is my question. Can you create an index card, then make an instance (duplicate) of that card and place it in another part of your project… and have BOTH update when making corrections to one?
The feature you’re referring to is called “cloning” by most outlining software, where two or more entries in an outline point to the same underlying resource. It’s not something that Scrivener supports in the Binder alone, but the Collections feature is meant to address cases where this might be desired. For example, if you have a group of scenes pertaining to a character in your novel, you could dump them all into a Collection to have them together in one place, without disturbing their positions in the original manuscript. As with clones, collected items point back to the original, so edits made to them will impact the copy in the Binder.
To give it a quick try, select a few items in the Binder that you wish to “collect”, and use the Documents/Add to Collection/New Collection… menu command. The tabbed collection interface will open, giving you a chance to name the tab, and the selected items will be added to the list for you. You can drag and drop items to tabs to add them to existing collections.
