Load times *slow* w snapshots

Hey there.

I’m working on a book project, flipping back and forth between different chapters, one in each pane. Since adding a snapshot to one chapter (~6k words), however, the load time when clicking on that pane has jumped to like 15 seconds, which basically makes the panes unusable.

(The entire project, I should say, contains many, many files, and probably upwards of 300k words, tho I don’t see why this should matter…)

I’m not working on a particularly slow computer (16 gig ram, 3.1ghz i7, Sierra), and Scrivener seems to be working fine in all other respects.

Thoughts, suggestions, anyone?

Thank you!

Do you have the Inspector open and is it set to show the snapshots area? (The only reason I can think that the snapshot would even be in any way possibly involved in loading the chapter doc into an editor split.) Are there any images in the chapter doc or snapshot thereof or is it straight text?

Just trying to help until someone more important swings by!

Yeah the inspector pane is open but even closed it takes a while to load.

And no images – just straight text. Really well written text, granted, but text all the same.

Perhaps the world is just not ready for such great prose. Even Scrivener is stunned. That’s my diagnosis and I’m sticking to it!

Hopefully someone helpful comes along soon. I myself am mystified, b/c snapshots don’t load into memory just because you flip to their ruling document (or at least that is my belief). So, that makes me think the cause has to be something other than the fact that you took a snapshot. Might be worth asking yourself this question: suppose the idea that it was somehow related to the snapshot was definitively ruled out. If we fetched around for other suspects what might we turn up?

Well, I can say this much. If I open a new project, create a document with the same number of words, and then snapshot it, I don’t have the same problem.

So maybe it’s something about this project. Which is, as I mentioned, big. About a million words, in all, so far. But with no individual document holding more than 50k of them.

Interestingly, when I select the entire “Draft” folder and set “View” to “Scrivenings,” there is no lag at all, despite a total document length of over 300k words. Of course, no snapshots have been taken of that text as a whole…
