Lost file on MAC

I’m trying to open a document - I wrote so much in it!

This is what is coming up:

The document “Fertility Journey 2019.scrivx” could not be opened.

“Fertility Journey 2019.scrivx” is the main structure file for a project, but other required files for this project could not be found: the /Files/Data and /Settings folders are missing.

Does this mean the content is gone?

In what folder do you think the Scrivener project (which is a macOS “package” of many files hidden to you unless you specifically look) is supposed to be located in? Can you see it in Finder?

Dropbox or other sync service? Is your Mac set to “Optimise Storage”? If so probably incomplete sync or files are “online” and thus unavailable Scrivener.

Scrivener does not delete files on your computer, but Apple’s “optimise storage” and Dropbox with “online” turned on, does when instructed thusly to do so. Files may be on the online server, if that’s the issue.

If not a cloud sync issue, then do you have at hand backups? Scrivener’s automated backups (normally as zip files) and/or TimeMachine?
