Lost text

I accidentally hit something on my keyboard that deleted a large chunk of text. I have no idea what I hit and nothing was highlighted in my text. This is the second time this has happened. I’ve just spent the past 45 minutes trying to figure out how to get it back. Can I get it back? What’s the point of Scrivener automatically saving it if you can’t retrieve it when something like this happens? When I used Word, I would hit the Undo button to bring it back but Scrivener saves everything so often, there’s no time to retrieve anything you accidentally deleted. Any advice?

By the way, I’m not very computer-savvy, so if there’s an easy solution to this problem, I apologize in advance! I did check the manual and user forums first.

My suspicion is that you accidentally invoked a keyboard shortcut.

I did a search of the forums using “shortcut delete”.
These three stood out as possibly relevant

Colleen,

Until you solve this, here’s a way to perform frequent backups.

If you don’t have a lot of extra hard drive space, buy a big thumb drive. From tools/option/backup, set the folder in which you want the backups saved.

Now, frequently click the backup toolbar button, and you will have something to fall back to. Uncheck the option for “Backup as Zip File” to keep things fast.

L&L: You may want to think about whether you want to say “Back up as Zip File” here.
