Lost work

Two days’ work seems not to have been saved. I am on a Mac with Yosemite. Clearly anxious to correct either my understanding of saving and retrieving my work and/or resolving the problem.

It would help to know the following:

  1. What you tried already in regards to retrieval (have you gone through your existing automatic backups, for example?).
  2. Where the project itself is stored—is it on an old USB flash stick from 2003? Google Drive? Etc.
  3. How do you load the project, assuming you do specifically load it, as opposed to just letting Scrivener open it for you.
  4. Whether you’ve tried to locate the text in the project, using Project Search set to “All/Any Words” and no exclusions (such as Draft-only).
  5. If you’ve upgraded to Scrivener 2.6 (since you are using OS X 10.10, this is strongly recommended).

One other question: do you tend to leave Scrivener open for extended periods of time, potentially sleeping the computer, waking it up, working a bit more, sleeping it again?

I am just now seeing your reply, so will go through your first list. As to the second posting, I was leaving Scrivener open, but I intentionally closed the program night before last, as I understood auto backup would happen at that point.
(FOUND work)
Thank you so much for your assistance. I went through your checklist and found my work in one of the back up folders. It would be great to know why the program didn’t open automatically to that edition, but rather opened to a spot from an earlier iteration.
So - this was a matter of user error, and again - I so appreciate your knowledge of the program. Best, J
