Luther starts on BBC - scripted in Scrivener!

But she is absolutely stunningly beautiful as well as being a good actor. IMHO

:open_mouth: ACTOR! ACTOR! Merciless Mother of Lucifer! You are lying, Fandango! Lying!
Mon amour, Alice, is, how you say…‘A sexy naught girl’ Une fille sexy coquine…non…oui, eh?!
Vous couché Pavane!! ACTOR! pffferrttt!! to you Monsieur, pffferttt!! I say.
Le D :imp:

Speaking of good ACTORS…

Idris Elba, who plays the central character, was also a dominant factor in the excellent US series, The Wire. Watching him – more to the point, hearing him – in Luther made me wonder yet again at the linguistic versatility of so many British actors, a quality quite rare in Americans.

ps

Hmm.

A triumph, in my view (as good as Alice/Ruth).

Now is the winter of our discontent
Made glorious summer by this son of… :open_mouth: Noo Joysee…where?!

He was in “The Wire?” No way. Lennie James has an amazing American accent, as well. Big Finish should get more actors like them when they have “American” characters… (We won’t talk about “Minuet in Hell.”)

I mean, I"ve seen the Wire. Didn’t realize he was in it. (I do now, though.)

Perhaps worth mentioning that Dominic West, who played the lead, is also a Brit. His accent, like Elba’s, was not merely American. It was Baltimore American.

ps

Us Brits are everywhere. Y’ just can’t keep a good Brit down. Ahhhhh.(< a modest sigh.)
Nobody is allowed to say unkind stuff like: Yeah!! Like tainted food, It makes y’ peuwk!! ‘n’ spew up!!

I just discovered that Luther is streaming on Netflix now (for the American audience). I’m pretty sure I checked when this forum started and it wasn’t there. It’s labelled as “S1:E7,” which I would assume means Season One, Episode Seven, but it also says “Episode 1.” No mention of S1:E1, however, so I’m not sure if I’m starting in the middle. It says “Luther returns to work after a spell of leave . . .” and has a 2010 date. Is that the season everyone is talking about, or should I try to find some hypothetical “S1:E1” before jumping in? Or is Netflix just confused (which seems very likely)?

Edit: Okay, I’m hooked.

That’s it, B, you’re on it!

I’ve been re-watching “the Wire” recently, and I had no freaking clue that he wasn’t American. Wish Big Finish could get people who could do accents like that. Their actors are great, but their American accents are cringe-worthy sometimes.

Very late to the party on this, but since someone brought the thread back up again…

This was played in Australia last October, but I was on holiday at the time, so I recorded it on my TiVO with a lot of other things, and finally got a chance to sit down and watch it as a block a month or so ago (with shorter British series like this and Spooks, I prefer to watch them in a few days rather than one episode per week).

Thought it was an excellent series, and paced exceptionally well through to the final. Any chance of a second series?

Matt

The second series ended in the UK about a month ago, matt, so should be coming your way quite soon.
