Mac users: Firefox vs Safari [Apple ecosystem browsers]

I haven’t noticed any degradtion of videos from the few sites that I use on a daily basis. As to the bandwidth, well I have a full fibre connection. When all of us here are watching videos from streaming sites, or playing games there is still bandwidth to spare.

That’s okay with me as I make little use of the web when mobile and on those occasions when I need/want to I use either Apple’s Safari or DuckDuckGo browser preferably the latter (to squelch ads and trackers).

As I said I have that covered. I also do not use many apps aka encapsulated browsers that remove user control over ads and trackers.

That’s fair, and everyone’s use case is different. Glad that Firefox works for you. Most sites should be fine, just so long as you don’t curse the poor software engineer when you find one that doesn’t. Might be your browser, not the web site…

Personally, for mobile, I only use Safari (as it’s great with battery life).

I switched from Safari to Brave and then a couple of years ago to Arc. Recently I’ve been dabbling with Vivaldi, but the one killer feature of Arc that is holding me back from switching completely to Vivaldi is Little Arc, which I find incredibly useful for checking a link in, say, an email without having to switch to the main browser window (which in my case resides on a separate Space from the email client).

Totally agree. It’s a great feature!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but thanks to the suggestions on here I’ve been using Firefox with the ublock-origin extension. For the most part this has worked extremely well.

However having changed my router, I ran a Shields Up scan and noticed that unlike Safari which obscures your true IP address, Firefox allows a reverse DNS lookup from your actual IP. FWIW the same is true with Vivaldi and probably other Chrome based browsers.

Not sure how much of a security risk this is, but using the terminal and: nslookup I found the address of my router. This was impossible with Safari since the IP displayed was false.

Are there any extensions for FireFox which are able to block reverse DNS? Anonymous proxies are a bit of a minefield.
