Mac warning Scrivener 32 bit incompatible after updating to High Sierra 10.13.6

I recently updated my Mac OS to High Sierra as my older Mac Pro was not compatible with Mojave. Upon opening Scrivener, a popup indicated a compatibility issue of a 32 bit program with 64 bit computer. I could only see this message few about 2 seconds until Scrivener opened, so I am not exactly sure of the popup’s contents. Is there a compatibility issue using Scrivener with my Mac Pro running High Sierra?

Current version: 2.8.1.2.

Is there an update for version 2? I don’t want to update to Version 3 unless my current version will not work properly.

Thank you.

There are no further updates for Scrivener 2. It is not supported with any version of Mac OS after 10.12.

I think there are a few people using it with 10.13 and even 10.14. I have it running with 10.14 for support purposes, but haven’t attempted to use it for real work. Anything after 10.12 is entirely at your own risk.

Given how difficult it is to convert v2 projects to v3, this is a huge problem. I think you are underestimating just how many people rely on being able to run both versions of Scrivener. Expect many complaints as Catalina begins to roll out.

I’m sorry, but we have no control over Apple’s decisions, nor do we have the resources to maintain two independent versions of Scrivener.

Mac OS 10.12 is the last version of Mac OS that supports both Scrivener 2 and Scrivener 3. Whether to update beyond that is, of course, up to you.

If you haven’t seen it already, our update guide for Scrivener 2 users can be found here:

Could you clarify something? When Scrivener 3 was released my recollection is, and I might be wrong, but I recall the information indicating an upgrade was not necessary. Now it appears, if you want to get your OS up to date, the Scrivener update is necessary. Is that correct?

I am fairly new to this forum. How can I subscribe to receive notices of new comments to this thread?

Thank you.

I’m not sure I understand your question.

We have never claimed that Scrivener 2 would support any version of Mac OS beyond 10.12. As I said, we have no control over Apple’s software development decisions, and Apple’s own guidance regarding 32-bit applications has changed over time.
