Thank you very much for this advice only I’ve bought the MacAir refurbished & I quite like Big Bang Theory Sheldon’s idea of making the geniuses cry Not really… But we live top of a Welsh mountain, I don’t think we have geniuses anywhere near us. I will probably do what I normally do and get a mouse as turning off the touchpad makes it easier to type - I am very old - without the cursor taking an unscheduled road-trip and messing up my TS… Thanks again, have a great w/e!
As someone of pretty advanced age with an essential tremor, I find life with only a trackpad difficult, but I don’t turn the trackpad off; it is very useful for swiping between virtual desktops. You can do it with an Apple mouse, but I even have a trackpad as well as a mouse for my Mac Mini, as it’s much more convenient.
Now I’ve just got to read through this thread again or ask for help because I downloaded a trial version of Scrivener for Mac but it says I’m not eligible for a discount even though I bought Scrivener 3 on Windows…
Did you download it from the Mac ASpp Store, or directly from Lit&Lat? There are no discounts available through the Mac App Store.
Word of Warning: when you set it up, I presume you set up an iCloud account. Make sure it is not storing everything on your Desktop and in Documents on the cloud… that’ll give you problems with Scrivener. Either make sure that is Off in your iCloud settings, or else keep all your Scrivener projects in a folder directly under your home folder—that has the icon of a house in your finder window sidebar—not in Documents.
Thank you so much, Mark - I actually managed to set it up so that my backups are all stored on a Data Traveller memory stick - I try not to use clouds whenever poss.
Pretty sure I downloaded the trial version of Scrivener 3 from this website. I defo have a license key when I purchased Scrivener 3 for Windows via Paddle 18 months ago.

By the way, I wasn’t referring to “backups” as set in Preferences, but to your active projects. Unless you said no when your MBA was being set up, you will have an iCloud account, and by default, I believe—I’ve been using Macs so long I’m not sure what current defaults are and setting one up is almost automatic for me!—it is set to store Desktop and Documents folder on iCloud, just as a new installation of Dropbox, OneDrive (I believe) and others try to get you to store everything on their servers. So it’s worth checking Apple → Preferences → iCloud to make sure it’s not “Optimising” storage, or whatever it’s called on your version of the system. Incidentally do let us know which version of the system you are running… Apple → About This Mac; the latest version, MacOS 13 changed the UI and some of the labels—Settings rather than Preferences, for instance—so we can be sure to respond appropriately to any questions you may have.
Of course not… I may be new to Mac but have been purchasing and using computers since 1998 so in that respect I do know what I’m doing… but someone unticked that box. Although the new update ticked it again!
