Hi
I’m currently editing my text, and some times when I press enter to move a sentence down a line, my whole text gets automatically turned into a list. Very annoying! So what am I doing wrong?
It goes from:
Bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla.
Bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla.
To:
Bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla.
Bla bla bla bla
bla bla bla.
(sorry if this doesn’t make any sense, english isn’t my first language)
Sometimes lists can be “invisible”. They are there, but there is no bullet or symbol to readily make it obvious to you. What I would do is select all of the text in this file with Cmd-A, and then use the bullet tool in the Format Bar to set the list type to “None”. Hopefully you shouldn’t see anything weird from now on.
All right, that is to be expected if there is an invisible list. If you select a list type of “None” on text that isn’t in a list, then nothing will change with the formatting. The fact that it does change means you have a messed up list within the text. If you need to recreate the look of the text (likely you are referring to indents?), then use the ruler to fix the text. This is what you want anyway, as using an empty list style to indent text is just going to cause problems—like this—now and down the road in other word processors.
As for how this can happen: I’ve seen it happen most often when copying text from MS Word. The thing with rich text is that there are a bunch of ways to do things, and not every text engine does them the same way, so you can end up with formatting oddities like this from time to time when going between word processors. I’ve heard of it happening from other sources as well, though.
