My Scrivener file shows a blank manuscript page for many of my binder items but I see synopses on the right side. How can I restore my original manuscript text to make it visible?
Welcome to the Scrivener world and the forum!
What version of macOS, Scrivener, and did you save the project into a folder that syncs with a third party service, e.g. Dropbox, Google, or other that is configured correctly per L&L Instructions? Also, in case you need to restore have you checked your backups which are done automatically by Scrivener?
Based on the sparse symptoms reported, probably related to incomplete sync.
Hi, sorry forgot to include that I’m using macOS 15 with Scrivener 3.4 and the file is in my Documents folder which is synced using iCloud Drive. I came over from a Windows PC where I first used Scrivener and wonder if that caused the corruption - incomplete sync seems like it could be the issue. Can you suggest a path forward because I’m not sure where the backups are located ? Thanks
Hi hollyce, and welcome to the forum.
Since your projects are syncing with iCloud Drive, I’d start with checking your iCloud Drive settings to make sure your Scrivener projects can be accessed even if the computer is offline. This Apple Support article has tips on checking those settings.
Also, §5.2.3 of the Scrivener manual explains how to safely access your backups, and you can access the manual via Scrivener’s Help menu.
And, we have a Knowledge Base article that also has the process for safely accessing your backups.
@RuthS has given the best advice.
I’m guessing you have macOS “Optimise Disk Storage” turned on. That will remove files from your computer to “online” when Apple decides to do so, not when you decide. That doesn’t work well with Scrivener which expects files to be local to your computer all the time. I recommend you not use this “optimise disk” storage if possible, and for sure put your Scrivener files outside Apple’s reach to “optimise”. I don’t know details on how to go about doing that as I never had to recover from “optimise disk storage”. Others might.
And please take care where your Scrivener backups are stored and how to restore.
