Is it possible to create Meta-data with Drop Down lists like Labels and Status have?
I ask this because I am more and more impressed with what the new Scrivener can do every day. I’d like to use it to replace Bento (which has led to corruption in my contacts and I think in my calendar). I being able to have keywords that contrast with each other in a drop down list. From the manual I gather you can’t do that. Is this correct? Will it be possible in a future version?
Right, at the moment custom meta-data is all basic text. Keith has stated that the long-term goal is to have custom types such as dates and so on, on the future list. Whether that includes the creation and design of drop-down menus, I don’t know, that’s more complicated, so I couldn’t say: yeah, that’s on the list—but new types in general is something for consideration. Don’t expect anything tomorrow though.
I’m not exactly sure what you are heading for, but have you tried using actual keywords? They are really quite flexible, and visible in 2.0, unlike prior versions.
Yeah, checkboxes and drop-down lists would be nice in the long-run, but they are a lot more complicated to add (the inspector interface for custom meta-data would need to be completely redesigned, too, because it currently uses a simple table, and you can only have one sort of data in a single column, so different data types wouldn’t be possible there). I wouldn’t expect anything like this before late next year at the very earliest though.
