Migrating Scrivener to a new machine

Hi, all. I’m upgrading my 10-year old MacBook Pro to a new one.

I’ll be using Migration (or is it Setup?) Assistant to copy all files and stuff from the old to new machine. (Then I’ll wipe the machine before I give it to a friend.)

Any oddities I should be aware of with Scrivener or its files when migrating like this? (I’ve got multiple complete and partial copies in different locations in case everything gets pinky.)

Thanks for any help and insight.

Arthur

Migration Assistant should bring over everything. I’d just go ahead and do it, then check that everything’s where it should be before you wipe the old machine.

In my experience, Migration Assistant is great for moving data, but NOT for moving programs. Many programs – Scrivener included – generate machine-specific keys as part of their licensing scheme and won’t work properly if you try to just move the installation to a new system.

Downloading a fresh copy also ensures that you have the most current version of the software, which is useful if your new computer comes with a newer version of the operating system.
