Mini vs iMac

I agree … somewhat. I use multiple desktops a lot (on each monitor). But it’s handy to see Quicken on a landscape monitor and a bank’s transaction report on the tall portrait monitor (both 27" diagonal), enabling me to look back and forth between them with ease, while balancing the account.

To bring this thread back, I’m in the middle of the changeover process. I thought through everything very carefully and allowed my bank balance to build up. I also kept an eye on Apple refurbished kit. I was going to go for a refurbished studio with 1TB SSID, but missed one because I didn’t have quite enough at the time, since when they’ve been like hens’ teeth! But a couple of weeks ago, I managed to get a refurbished Apple Studio monitor, currently running as an external monitor on my MBA… I love it!

But while I was still looking for a refurbished Studio, Apple announced the release of the new M2 Minis. I have plumped for an M2 Pro one with 1TB SSID. It seems to me that it would give the lower spec Studio a good run for its money and is about £200 cheaper than a refurbished Studio.

I should be able to pick it up around the 6th February.

So in the meantime, the Studio monitor is the external on the MBA, and I can use “Hand Off” to the 5K iMac while I still have it for the function outlined by @drmajorbob!
