Missing checkbox for “superscript ordinals” Under the "Corrections" tab in Scrivener preferences

Hi!

I write on MacOS 12.7.6, using Scrivener 3.5.2, and typing in Palatino, and use a Norwegian keyboard layout.

I have for a while been having an issue with ordinals not rendering in superscript, and when I manually format them to superscript, they don’t follow the Palatino superscript standard with adjusted size and placement, but they are only lifted, offsetting the line spacing.

Today I was made aware of a checkbox in Preferences>Corrections, under the Auto-corrections label that is for “superscript ordinals”. This box is not showing up in my Corrections window, but there is a double empty line spacing where the box and accompanying text should have been.

(As this is my first post I was not allowed to post a screenshot here)

I have tried changing to the US keyboard layout and reopening Scrivener, but the checkbox was still missing.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

According to the Scrivener manual (B.6.1 Auto-Correction, p.825), “This setting is only available in English (1st, 2nd, etc.) and French (1er, 2e, etc.).”

Change the Scrivener language (Scrivener → Settings… → General → Language → Interface language) to English or French and the setting will show up. At least for English it does for sure.

This is a limitation of the Mac OS text system that Scrivener uses. They should be rendered correctly in your Compiled output document, though.

(This applies to all forms of super/subscripts, not just ordinals.)

Thanks a lot! This solved it. I’ve been searching for this fix for way too long, I should have come here earlier haha! Thanks again!

I see, thank you. I changed the Scrivener language to English now, which solved it for me, and also made the superscript turn out properly in the project as well.
