Monitoring for long sentences?

Is there any tool, macro, or window element in Scrivener that could show me if my text contains any extra-long sentences (longer than a certain number of words)?

There isn’t anything like this, the software itself doesn’t have a good library to use for recognising sentences to begin with. There is a search pattern you can use that would help you locate places where there are a large quantity of characters between full stops. Press Cmd-F in your text editor, and copy and paste the following search pattern into the search field:

code.{350,}?.
[/code]

Now switch the Find Options type to “Regular Expressions”, and give that a go. The number in the middle is the important one, that is the minimum number of letters (and spaces) in a sentence that you wish to find. All sentences shorter than 350 characters will be ignored by the search. It is also designed to select the full sentence and its period and space afterwards so you can easily cut it from the paragraph if desired.

Throw that pattern into a Project Search (remember to change it to RegEx with the magnifying glass) and you’ll find all documents containing long sentences. You can save this search as a collection for future use, which may be handy since you wouldn’t have to jot down the search pattern.

Using the search collection will (a) load the pattern into the toolbar search and (b) load it into the “Cmd-F” find panel so you can just start pressing Cmd-G to find matches.
