Hi,
Tried looking for this on the forums but couldn’t find it. if there’s a similar thread, feel free to point me there.
Recently, I’ve been writing stories that are in-between languages. That is to say, they are two or more languages going in the same story. Problem is that when you spellcheck/grammar check in one language in scrivener, you can’t seem to check in others. So if while writing in one language, you write a word in another, scrivener sees it as an error and underlines it. However, if there was a way that scrivener knew you were writing in both languages, that’d make things so much less annoying.
I think if you go to System Preferences>Keyboard>Text, you can set Automatic by Language for spelling. I write in a mixture of English and Italian, and it works for me.
Just checking, but have you gone to the bottom of the pull-down menu for Automatic by Language and chosen Set Up…? If the second language dictionary is not selected there, it won’t be available.
I guess you will have to ask around on Apple forums. Scrivener just uses the system spell checker, so I doubt that the problem is related to Scrivener. You could test the function in TextEdit and see what happens there. As I said, I have no trouble writing in English and Italian in the same text. I have the latest release of the OS, so it might be related to which version you are using.
As a troubleshooting step, you might check to see if documents that are solely in one language or the other are spellchecked correctly. That is, make sure the individual dictionaries are working, then test the automatic language detection.
