Multiple computers

I love Scrivener! This has been a saving program for the latest Nanowrimo effort. I have a user question. I’m not very technical. I have a laptop and an ASUS tablet. I like to take the tablet when I’m traveling. Can I load Scrivener on that as well. Do I need to buy a second license? I thought I could upload my projects to dropbox and then when I’m on the road load them on to my tablet to work on. That way they hang out on the cloud and are safe and I have them whether at home or on the beach. Any information and feedback would be very helpful. Thank you.

  1. If you read what it says on the Lit&Lat website about licences, you will find that you can have it installed on up to 5 computers of which either you are the sole user, or which are in use by family members residing with you in the same house … or words to that effect. So yes you can install it on your laptop and enter the same registration details.

  2. For storing an active project in the cloud, do read up on the subject. Basically, always make sure that Dropbox has fully synced before you shut down the computer you’ve been working on, and always make sure that Dropbox has fully downloaded any changes to the other computer before you try opening the project on that one. If you ignore that, you’ll get problems. That said, I share a project with a friend that way, and we have had few problems as a result of being careful.

Thank you for the reply. I appreciate the feedback.

Do read this article: scrivener.tenderapp.com/help/kb … c-services

I use the “Alternative Method” mentioned in the article, to 1) automatically back up the Scrivener files to the cloud and 2) work on multiple PCs when necessary. It is a very low risk approach and therefore highly recommended.

Whatever approach you take, working on multiple PCs with Scrivener is not for those who cannot follow a strict process/workflow. There are quite a few posts on these boards by people who were too casual about working with Scrivener on the cloud and ended up having to recover files, find lost data, etc. So whichever method you choose, be very careful about closing Scrivener, then letting upload and download processes finish, before you start Scrivener again.

Another vote for back matter.
