Hi there!
I upgraded to Scrivener 3 a couple of weeks ago and I had (or have but it didn’t happen recently) the problem that Scrivener marked a lot of text below an inserted link as that link as well. (So all the text turned blue and underlined and I could click on it and would be directed to the website whose link I inserted above the text.) It never happened directly after adding the link or creating the text but sometime when I returned to that document or those notes.
Normally I could just delete the link from the text where it didn’t belong and everything was fine.
But with one document this kept happening over and over so I put the link in a comment instead to prevent it from happening again. That worked - but now I have the problem that comments keep disappearing from this document! Not the one with the link and not all the comments, just a few, but they vanish and that’s of course worse than the first problem.
I don’t know if those to problems are related, maybe it’s pure casualty (maybe a curse lies upon this document xD) but I thought I’d better describe everything in case it is in fact related.
So, is there a way I can keep all my comments in this document? Any ideas why this happens?
I would be very grateful for answers.
Have a nice day!
This seems truly bizarre to me. The initial issue seems strange, and when I move links to comments, the link turns to normal text. I wonder whether you could omit the problem with that one file by creating a new file and copying the normal text into it (maybe recreating comments for that one file). I’m really not sure about why this one is happening, but that may give a fix, and if it was the conversion process, then it should not happen again.
I want to know how it goes.
Comments in the Inspector disappear when you delete the phrase they are attached to, among other ways to delete them.
@AnoniDol: Yes, I know that. But I didn’t delete them nor the phrases they were attached to, they just disappeared.
@GoMach: Thanks, I’ll try that and add new comments so that I can see if they disappear (recently I didn’t add comments to that document because I feared they would disappear). I’ll update then!
Okay, so from the new document no comments have disappeared since I created it. Seems to do the trick, thanks, GoMach!
I still have the problem with the links though, so, if anyone has ideas regarding that…
Update:
It just happened again in another document and I think I now know why! I had the problem with the spreading links in this one as well, so I marked a giant block of text to “unlink” it - and I think Scrivener views the comments as links as well, that’s why they disappeared!
So, when that bug gets fixed, this problem should be solved too. Until then I’m going to be a little more careful while “unlinking” text.
