[NB] Compiling When The Project Is Sorted by Chapters

On a book I am working on, I have put every chapter into its own document. Sorting out by scenes is too small for me and won’t work because of how small the chapters are. After messing around with the compiler for awhile in the current version of Scrivener, I managed to get it to compile the book into a .DOCX file with the each document’s title (Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, etc.) printed and then the text in that document printed below it. I have spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get this same output after downloading the beta version of Scrivener 3, and I haven’t been able to. Does anyone know how to this? I created a template in Scrivener 1, but it didn’t show up in Scrivener 3. I am sure it is possible, but I can’t seem to figure it out. Thanks.

Hello! Compile has changed quite a lot since the last version. Now you can assign each document in your project a “Section Type” as you are working and then when you compile you can assign each “Section Type” a “Section Layout”. In your case, you will want to make sure that each of your chapters is assigned the same “Section Type” (this can be done by right-clicking on the document in the binder and selecting “Section Type” from the drop-down). Once they’ve all been assigned the same thing you can go into compile. Click on the button that says “Assign Section Layouts”. Choose the “Section Type” in the left of the new window, and select “Text Section with Header”. This will compile all documents of the chosen type with the Document Name in bold above the main body text.

That said, Compile is still not fully functional in the beta, so don’t be surprised if you run into a few glitches.

Hope this helps!

Okay thanks, that helps a lot.
