OS: Windows 10 (all updates)
Scrivener version: 2.9.0.3
File: Imported from Scrivener 1 (Windows) with loads of text and files
Problem:
I tried editing in Scrivenings mode before I knew that it doesn’t work yet. I chose a whole Chapter (Main file has 5 subfiles) and marked up single words, trying to edit them - nothing happened, as expected. I then chose the single first sub-file where I wanted to do the edit and it worked. I went like this through that whole first file, then switched to the second file. Here, I couldn’t edit anymore, except if I used the F11 editor and even that was massively laggy.
I tried restarting Scrivener and restarting the PC, but that did nothing. I then tried to edit a file outside that Chapter and that worked like expected. I also tried changing a few options in hopes of forcing some kind of mode refresh, but alas, no such luck.
I went through the remaining 3 files, but parts 1-4 wouldn’t let me edit anything, part 5 worked again.
Looks like this (sorry for my claw, I’m not a painter):

Other details I noticed: The title display up top lags behind for the buggy files. I chose number one, it didn’t refresh. I chose number two next, it showed me the title of number one. I switched to number three, title number two was displayed. The title refreshed correctly as soon as I clicked on the file that still lets me edit. Also, the buggy parts are still working for F11 mode, if massively laggy, so there just seems to be a problem with the standard editor.
Hello! I’d like to try to clarify some things from your post so I can begin looking into your issue. I’m going to start by reiterating some basics just to make sure we are both on the same page.
Scrivenings mode is the ability to edit multiple documents at once, rather than one document at a time. Currently that is not working at all for the beta, but folders may still attempt to default to Scrivenings mode when selected. Since you have customized icons for your binder, and because empty folders can look just like single documents, I am unable to discern which of the files you are having trouble with are folders and which are single documents. Are any of the files you were unable to edit folders? If you are unsure, you can look at the Editor Icon to the right of the Quick Search Menu. For a folder it will show two pages, for a single document, only one.
Hi!
I changed the icon of “Act 1B:…” back to standard to be sure, it’s a folder.
All the parts I’m having trouble with are definitely files and I tried to edit them in single file mode after having found out that Scrivenings Mode doesn’t work. It went like this:
Step 1: Click on folder. Scrivenings Mode opens.
Step 2: Double-click on one word in Scrivenings Mode and try typing over (which of course doesn’t work).
Step 3: Choose single file, double-click on that same word, type over, works.
Step 4: Change a bunch of other words throughout that same single file, each by double-clicking and typing.
Step 5: Try to repeat Step 3+4 in the next file inside that same folder. Fail.
Step 6: Try Duplicating that file to find out if the copy works. It doesn’t.
Step 7: Try splitting the document to see if it works then. Splitting doesn’t work either, does nothing.
Step 8: Try F11 for editing, that works.
Step 9: Select the following single file, find same problem.
Step 10: Select one file after another until one of them works as intended.
I hope this helps! I’ve been going through a bunch of the other single files and the error hasn’t occurred again yet, but I could try and reproduce it with another folder/file combo in my project if that would help.
Would you be willing to send us a copy of your project for testing?
If so please email it to win3beta@literatureandlatte.com with “Beta” in the Subject line and link to this thread.
That would let us try to determine why this is occurring in some files but not others.
Thank you!
I sent the project file minus some text and my outline. I made sure the bug is still there.
