I have the latest beta on my desktop computer (Windows 7). I tried a new project from the Fiction, Novel template and found that if I set it up to have Chapters (folders) then Scenes (text), I can’t type in the Chapters. I can type in and edit the Synopsis for a Chapter, but can’t type in the Editor for the Chapter.
I tried a different Fiction template to see, and it behaved the same way.
Changing the Label from Folder to Text does nothing. Still can’t type. Uninstalling and reinstalling does nothing. Still can’t type in Chapters.
Neither 3.0.1 on my Mac nor 1.9.7.0 on my Windows laptop (also running Windows 7) behave this way. I can insert a new chapter folder and type in the Editor for it just fine.
With further experimentation, I find that if I make a new Text file in the beta Windows Scriv on my desktop, I can type in that, move it to Folder level, change the label to Folder (which makes for the Folder with Text icon) and everything works from there.
So, is this a bug or do I have some locking setting on I can’t find?
Did you make sure that no group mode is selected (neither Scrivenings nor Corkboard nor Outline. That is, all group mode icons must have a white background)? Maybe your folder simply started in a default group mode?
Ah, I think you’re right, thank you. However, I can’t at the moment find a way to turn Scrivenings off. Have to go right now, will see what I can do and look at Option settings later. Since the problem persisted when I started a brand new test project from another template, maybe there’s a global setting there? Then again, maybe the template I downloaded and worked with a bit before noticing all this, which wasn’t a L&L template, flipped something.
I could’ve sworn the transition between group and single was automatic in 1.9? That is, if you select multiple documents/folders in 1.9, Scrivening mode will automatically show multiple pages on the button. But if you only select a single folder the mode button only shows one page and you can edit your folder text?
Can anyone with 1.9 verify this? I may be misremembering.
For my 1.9.7 installation the behaviour is like this: Clicking on a single document makes the scrivening mode icon appear as a single document. Clicking on a folder (or a text group) turns it into a multiple document icon. But in order to enter text for the folder the scrivening icon as well as any other group mode must not be active. Same as in V3, I think. However V3 has this cool feature of Lock Group View Mode which lets you decide on a per folder basis in which group mode to start.
