Hi. I’m new to Scrivener. Does anyone know if there is a way to change text direction to vertical? By vertical I mean the standard formatting for Japanese text (starting from the top right to bottom left). I’ve checked paragraph formatting but there’s only option to change text from right to left.
Scrivener works with LaTeX, and there is a Japanese TeX Development Community available online at https://texjp.org.
Also, there is a Guide to Japanese typesetting with LATEX available at
(http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/CTAN/macros/latex/contrib/babel-contrib/japanese/japanese.pdf). The guide has instructions on how “To obtain a properly formatted Japanese document…”
Thank you so much! I’ll look into it
There is an option View > Text Editing > Use Vertical Layout. Does that do what you want?
(I’m sorry but I don’t write Japanese, so I’m not sure what the requirements are exactly…)
You beat me to it GR! Yes, it works for Chinese, so it should work for Japanese without problem … except if you’re using Chinese/Japanese and English in your project, as it is at least project-wide (I havent tried setting it in one project to see if another open project is affected), not document-centric, your English is rotated 90º too. You have to keep switching backwards and forwards.
I also haven’t tried compiling with it in vertical layout.
Hi Brooketer & Mark!
Thank you so much! That’s exactly what I was looking for!
