Never stops crashing

I’m in a fatal crash loop with Scrivener Mac. I’ve tried trashing the app and redownloading - nothing works. I get the crash reporter, the spinning ball, and then it crashes. Again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

It did this once just prior to this, eventually the program stayed open so I thought that whatever snafu that had caused it was fixed, but now I’m stuck back in the crash, repeat, crash, repeat cycle and I’m tearing my hair out trying to just get the stupid program to stop crashing. It INSISTS on opening the last file used, so if that’s the problem, I’m hosed because I CAN’T tell Scrivener to just stop trying to open anything for long enough for me to DO anything.

And…somehow I’ve fixed it by opening another file. I have no idea HOW I fixed it, but I can reliably open and close the application. I had a very recent copy on dropbox, so now I can open THAT. Very little work lost thanks to dropbox, but it was 47k words that I thought I lost.

For future reference, you can open Scrivener without any projects by holding the Shift key when the program launches. That won’t necessarily fix a crash, but can give you a fresh start to figure out what’s going on.
