New Lit&Lat writing app

Kinsey,
Generally, I agree wit you. I, too, don’t think I have a need for a ‘slimmer’ or ‘core’ version of Scrivener UNLESS it runs on a tablet. I would get more mobility.
I would prefer to see the desktop/laptop version of Scrivener get an integration with Grammarly or other powerful grammar/spelling checker, OR an inclusion of more AI. Grammarly is going in this direction with its ‘clarification’ capability – it will unravel a grammatically-correct but convoluted sentence pretty well. It is usually good enough for first drafts.

You mean an Android tablet? Because there will be an iOS / iPadOS version (in addition to the mobile Scrivener app).

I’d go one further. I mean, does LL even need to be this fixated on writing software at all?

What I’d really like is a reliable supplier of good blueberry bagels. I’m worried, though, that this predictable focus on CakeOS that LL have already hinted at will mean my beloved BreadOS will go unsupported as they expand into the Bakery market.

Or is that a topic for another section of the forum, perhaps?

I prefer it not integrate with those systems as they use an ossified grammar. Personally I take a descriptive not a proscriptive view of grammar; tools like Grammarly are very much of the second type.

I applied for the beta and I am very excited about this – sounds like it’s exactly what I need. Thank you L&L!

Parsing the results of that user survey three years ago must have been an absolute nightmare

Seeing that collaboration was probably a forefront concern in this new writing app makes it sound very interesting and exciting to me. Congratulations to Keith and L&L on the new upcoming beta! I hope it proves to be very successful.

I’m not going to speculate. When it is launched on a not-unsuspecting community, I shall certainly install it and see how it fits my working style with some of my projects.

As for Scrivener, like @reepicheep, I want nothing to do with grammar checkers, but then I am of an age which was taught how to parse sentences and to spell at school (when 9 years old!), so I have spell-check turned off in Scrivener and only run it on the compiled document to pick up typos. And then, when Scrivener 4 comes out, I will upgrade, though, truth be told, I cannot think of anything that I would like added.

Scrivener already allows integration with Grammarly. Go to "settings’ and edit the block list. You can add/delete software as needed.

Not that I want to allow Grammarly but I don’t see a block list anywhere in Scrivener’s settings and a search using the Help menu does not highlight anything either.

This seems to be a setting in Grammarly: https://support.grammarly.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406998780813-How-to-choose-where-Grammarly-for-Windows-and-Mac-works

Sorry, I meant Grammarly settings.

One point I wanted to clarify: will the Beta include iPadOS? From the details given so far, and the screenshots, it seems not; but a man can hope, and ask.:pray:t3:

S.

I wish Apple hadn’t split iOS into iOS and iPadOS as it gets confusing! I’m still in the habit of using iOS to refer to both - sorry for the confusion. (From a coding point of view, the iOS and iPadOS versions are the same app, just with more features available on iPadOS.)

But to answer your question, yes, there certainly is an iPadOS version. There’s no screenshot because (a) it would be nearly identical to the Mac screenshot and (b) we’re not showing too much until we’re close to being ready for release (sometime next year).

So be sure to sign up for the beta while there are still places left if you haven’t already done so!

All the best,
Keith

Looking forward to the iPadOS version. I deleted Scrivener from my iPad, not because the app itself wasn’t capable but because the Dropbox syncing was . . . What’s digital-speak for irritating? The iCloud sync between Apple Notes on my iPad and MacBook Air is friction-free (usually), though the actual writing experience is (often) whatever the digital-speak is for irritating.
Also, and it must be said, as some of us said back in the original Beta yaks back in 2006: When will there be Latte?

The REAL important business here, friends, is naming. This crew needs to get down to business and name this new app!!

Of course, it must begin with Sc__________.
