New Lit&Lat writing app

I like Scrivs as the new name.

Might lead to confusion as people, for example over in the Facebook Scrivener Users Group, already abbreviate Scrivener to Scriv.

Not only do I see no point in speculating about the app before we actually see it, I also don’t see any point in speculating about a name. I don’t care what it’s called. As Shakespeare had it: What’s in a name? A rose by any other name…

I believe The Simpsons comprehensively disproved Shakespeare’s hypothesis

So sorry, Mark. Doesn’t start with Sc____. Do try again though!

. . . . . . . . . .

Lots of great ideas of what the app should not be named. (?)

But if they were called “scumdrops” or whatever, that wouldn’t affect the scent… it would merely make people think, “What kind of nincompoop gave them that name”!

By the same token, whatever Lit&Lat decide to call the new app, it won’t affect the functionality. And I trust KB & Co. to come up with a name that won’t put potential customers off.

One question, silly for many. Does it really have to start with Sc____?

Maybe I am not aware of some of the inside info you all know?

Vince

Not really inside info. Literature & Latte’s two products are Scrivener & Scapple, so probably not a risky bet to assume they’ll continue with the ‘Sc’ naming convention.

Best,
Jim

Oh my… (!) Seriously ? What a silly ques… ← Just kidding.
In truth, the exercise in itself is of no value whatsoever. We’re just popping up names for no good reason other than having spare time on our hands. There was no request to do so on LL’s end. No contest, not even a cookie for who would come up with the best name.
It’ll have the name it’ll have and that’s about it.

So, no. … It can start with any two letters you want.

Something like DNMCBMOMNMT.

Of course, we should stop hunting for silly name and instead Let us write. Or, to put it another way…

Scrībāmus

(I’ll leave it to Keith whether he keeps the macrons in the actual title… )

I think “Scorrier” isn’t bad considering… :grinning:

Ha, I’ve seen The Charlatans, James and Primal Scream there.

Will development on Scrivener for iOS continue? I know you’ve said the new app would not replace Scrivener… Hoping Scrivener for iOS doesn’t get retired as part of this new effort.

I think Scrivener for iOS and Scrumptious - the new app - will serve different purposes, so both will, I suspect, still have roles to play.

And, of course, the Pro Max version, Scrumpdillyicious.

Absolutely, and hopefully some of the work on the new app will feed into that. The new app syncs differently, supporting iCloud, and we’re already encountering the friction points caused by Apple’s recommended ways of syncing project-based apps. So we’ll have a much better idea of what will and won’t work for future versions of Scrivener.

I thought it was supposed to be a lighter app? So really the name should be just “Sc”?

The “c” is silent. The “S” is shouted. The “reaming” is invisible, but also just internalised.

Over the course of the 57 years I’ve known KB it’s become clear that the best way to get him to confirm or share info on something (a deadline, a project feature, the existence of complex multi-cell life on Jupiter’s moons) is to first persuade him to publicly declare he won’t talk about it.

“S” alone might be too minimalist for today’s consumer. They want buzzwords. Spell-check challengers. Something like Sssssss, which evokes the serpentine whorls of plot construction and is secondarily useful for frightening away cats that colonize writer laps and thus prevent Productivity.

This new light app is good news. Hoping I’ll be able to test it some day soon. Keep the good work.

(Hoping for a future localization of it in French)
