New user - basic question

Hello,
I didn’t see this question on the forum but probably it has come up many times. In my manuscript, there will be many chapters with the same name (a character’s name), even in the same Part. Do I need to worry about my file under this name being wiped out by the new file with the same name?

Not sure if I am explaining this well…Let’s say I have:
Part 1 - Tom
- Dick
- Harry
- Tom
- Harry
- Tom
- Dick
- Harry
Part 2 - Harry
- Tom
- Dick
- Tom
etc.

Will I end up with many different “Tom” folders or will they all be the same - the latest! - at the end?
Thanks

Duplicate file and/or folder names make no difference to Scrivener. You could name every single chapter “Harry”, and all your individual chapter contents would come out, rather than the same chapter over and over. In fact, there’s no straightforward way to have the same document’s contents repeat over and over, except to duplicate the document multiple times.

In addition, with the default compile preset for the “novel with parts” project template, the chapters will all have a “CHAPTER X” prefix before the name of the file in the binder. You can also get the compiler to set things up as a novel with parts simply by choosing that from the compiler’s “Compile for:” drop-down list.

Thank you, I worry about all this type of stuff when starting on something new!

To add on to rdale’s answer, the scene document files are stored on your hard drive without the names attached to them. Each file has a separate number for its name, in order of when they were created, so there is no chance of accidental overwriting while in Scrivener. Everything is completely separate on a file explorer level.
