I’m new to Scrivener and trying to figure out how to do things the way I’d like.
When compiling, I’d like it to order and number things with either Parts/Chapters or Chapters/parts, etc.
For example I have my folders set something like this:
- Part 1
–Chapter 1
—1
—2
—3
–Chapter 2
—1
—2
—3
When compiling I get:
- Part One
–Chapter One
—#
—#
—#
I’m not sure why I’m getting the # instead of the actual number I have for the documents in the chapter folders
Hey
The numbers in compiled documents come from…
Compile > Formatting > Section Layout (for EACH section)
… and the placeholder tag used (see Help > Placeholder Tags List)
What placeholder tag have you got for the level that is returning the #?
Where are you seeing the #? In a table of contents only? In the body of the compiled document?
Thanks for the info. I love Scrivener, but never really learned much about it and there’s a million options. I just started writing and working in a way that made sense to me.
I’m getting the # in the actual compiled document. But I think I figured it out after you pointed me in the right direction.
Under Compile>Formatting, I had to check the box for Title under “Level 3+”
Then under Compile>Separators, I changed Text Separator from “Custom - #” to “Page Break”
I think that got things going the way I wanted. I really appreciate the help!
Glad you got it working. Happy to have helped.
