I just installed the newest Scr/Windows beta. When I try to open a file I created a few weeks ago I get the error message “You are trying to open a file created in a newer version than the one you are usiing. Click on Check For Updates”. So I did and it says my Scr is compleely up to date …
Are you sure you installed the beta, rather than the release version?
The release version (Scrivener 1.9.16) will give this error if you attempt to open a project last edited with the beta, as the two versions use different project formats.

Sweevil and Katherine,
Did you figure out what was going on? I am having the exact same problem. I’m totally unable to get into my project at all.
PLEASE HELP!
I was using the Beta but I would like to get out of that beta cycle. I purchased the program years ago and would like to just run the thing without it running in the beta version. I cannot find anywhere that I can enter my serial number or anything to get out of beta.
I just want to be able to write worry free.
You can’t “get out of beta,” because the beta is not yet for sale. (That’s why it’s a beta.)
If you want to revert to the last release version, Win Scrivener 1.9.16, you’ll need to find a helpful Mac Scrivener user to revert your project to the older format, as I don’t think the Win Scrivener beta includes that function yet.

It does not yet, but if you are comfortable with a random forum user helping you out to convert a project back to 2.x format so that you can use it with Win Scrivener 1.9.16, reach out to me in a PM.
