Okay I know all my files are stored on flash drive, with backups on PC & laptop - But I’m still experiencing lag when typing - in some respects I think it’s worse than on previous build - but cannot scientifically confirm.

Have you tried bumping up your auto-save idle interval by a couple seconds or three? You don’t need to push that much, and even a small change can move Scrivener’s auto-save activity outside of your natural pause-work cycle. That’s going to be the only thing that might cause lag via slow disks like thumb drives. Once the data is pulled off of the drive it is stored in RAM which is very fast. It’s just saving and initial loading that is slow.
