I got the trial version of Windows Scrivener three days ago as a NaNoWriMo contestant. I created a file for my NaNoWriMo story, and it was working fine since I started. Now, however, whenever I try to open my file, I get an error report that the project is incompatible with the current Scrivener version. I have not changed or redownloaded my current Scrivener version. I would appreciate help.
Sounds like one of the files inside didn’t clean up properly when the project closed. First thing, make a copy of your project’s entire .scriv folder, just for safety’s sake. Then, try these steps:
- In Windows Explorer, open your project’s .scriv folder, then open the Files folder
- Open the “version.txt” file there in a plain-text editor (e.g. Notepad)
- In the editor, select all, type “16” (no quotes), then save
Then try opening the project again in Scrivener. That ought to do it for you, but if not, you can right-click on the copied .scriv folder and choose “Send to \ Compressed (zip) file” and send that zip file to support AT literatureandlatte DOT com (if it’s 20MB or under) and I can take a look at it.
That worked! Scrivener is now running my file! Thanks!
Excellent! Best wishes for NaNoWriMo!
